Conditions for Personal Medicine Import: As mandated by Rule 36 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, the following criteria apply to importing medicines for personal use: Medicines must be strictly for individual use and are prohibited from sale or redistribution. The importer must hold a valid prescription from a registered medical professional specifying the medicine’s name, quantity, dosage, and treatment duration. Imported quantity must not exceed a three‑month supply. If any medicine is required for usage beyond three months, the importer must obtain permission again. CDSCO approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Government of India, is mandatory. Required Documents: On behalf of following documents, an individual can impor medicines for personal use: A valid prescription issued by a registered medical practitioner. Identity proof of the patient (Aadhaar card, passport, voter ID, etc.). A medical certificate issued by the doctor clearly stating that the medicine is essential and life-saving for the patient. Details of the medicine to be imported (name, quantity, manufacturer's details). Address and contact details of the importer. Procedure for Obtaining Import Permission: The following procedure should be followed to obtain permission for importing medicines for personal use: The applicant must submit an application to the relevant office of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). Include all required documents as specified above with your submission. The CDSCO will review the application and may request additional information if required. Upon document validation, CDSCO will issue the import authorization. The importer should import the medicine only after receiving the permission letter. Important Precautions: Obtain imported medicines exclusively from trusted suppliers to guarantee their safety and efficacy. Administer imported medications precisely according to your physician’s instructions. Report any adverse reactions to your doctor immediately upon onset while using imported medicines.
