What Is Xeligekimab Used For?

Xeligekimab is an injectable antibody for plaque psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis. It was developed and is made in China by Chongqing Genrix Biopharmaceutical, and is sold there as 金立希® (Jinlixi). It comes in a pre-filled syringe for injection under the skin.

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has approved it for adults with:

  • Moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who are suitable for systemic treatment or phototherapy (approved August 2024)
  • Ankylosing spondylitis (radiographic axial spondyloarthritis) that has not responded well enough to conventional treatment (approved January 2025)

It is a prescription immunology medicine and should be used only under a dermatologist or rheumatologist.

How It Works

IL-17A is an immune messenger that drives the thick, scaly patches of psoriasis and the inflammation of the spine and tendons in ankylosing spondylitis. Xeligekimab is a fully human IgG4 monoclonal antibody that binds IL-17A and stops it from attaching to its receptor (IL-17RA), so the inflammatory chain reaction is switched down.

What the Trials Showed

Psoriasis: the phase 3 trial, published in the British Journal of Dermatology in 2024, included 420 adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. After 12 weeks, 90.7% of people on xeligekimab had at least 75% clearer skin (PASI 75), against 8.6% on placebo. 74.4% reached PASI 90 and 30.2% had completely clear skin (PASI 100). Itching eased from about week 4, and the benefit was maintained to week 52.

Ankylosing spondylitis: in a phase 3 trial of 465 adults (BioDrugs, 2025), 74.0% of people on 200 mg and 65.8% on 100 mg reached the ASAS20 response at week 16, compared with 35.9% on placebo. The improvement was sustained to week 48.

Recommended Dosage

Each pre-filled syringe holds 100 mg in 1 mL. The doses studied in the pivotal trials were:

  • Plaque psoriasis: 200 mg (two syringes) every 2 weeks for the first 12 weeks, then 200 mg every 4 weeks
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: 100 mg or 200 mg doses were tested against placebo

Your specialist will confirm the approved dose and schedule from the current Chinese prescribing information.

Warnings and Precautions

Infections and tuberculosis: because this medicine works on the immune system, infections such as colds and sore throats are common. In the ankylosing spondylitis trial, upper respiratory infection affected 17.5% of people on 200 mg (19.2% on placebo). In that trial, people with latent tuberculosis were given preventive TB treatment for at least 4 weeks first, and no TB reactivation was seen. Tell your doctor about any infection or past TB before you start.

  • Blood tests: raised triglycerides (13.6% vs 5.1% on placebo), raised cholesterol (11.7% vs 3.8%), raised uric acid (12.3% vs 11.5%) and a rise in the liver enzyme ALT (8.4% vs 5.8%) were reported with the 200 mg dose. Your doctor may check these from time to time.
  • Injection-site reactions: redness or soreness where the injection was given affected 9.7% on 200 mg against 3.8% on placebo.
  • Bowel disease: people with active inflammatory bowel disease were excluded from the trial, so tell your doctor if you have Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: there is no published safety information in pregnancy or breastfeeding, so discuss this with your doctor before starting.

Overall: in the ankylosing spondylitis trial, side effects in the first 16 weeks were about as frequent as with placebo (87.0% on 200 mg vs 83.3%), and serious side effects occurred in 1.9% vs 1.3%. In the psoriasis trial, no unexpected side effects were recorded.
