What Is Senaparib Used For?

Senaparib is a once-a-day maintenance capsule for advanced ovarian cancer, developed in China by IMPACT Therapeutics and sold there as 派舒宁®. It is taken after chemotherapy has worked, to help keep the cancer from coming back.

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved it on 16 January 2025, as a single medicine, for adults with:

  • Advanced (FIGO stage III or IV) high-grade epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer
  • Whose cancer showed a complete or partial response to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy

It is a prescription cancer medicine and should only be used under a gynaecologic or medical oncologist.

How It Works

Cells constantly repair small breaks in their DNA, and two enzymes called PARP1 and PARP2 are part of that repair crew. Senaparib is a PARP inhibitor: it blocks these enzymes, so damage builds up inside the cancer cell until it can no longer survive. Ovarian cancer cells often already have weak DNA repair, for example because of a BRCA mutation, which makes them especially sensitive to this effect. In the main trial, it also helped women without a BRCA mutation.

What the Trial Showed

The phase 3 FLAMES trial, published in Nature Medicine in 2024, included 404 women in China with newly diagnosed stage III–IV ovarian cancer that had responded to platinum chemotherapy. They took senaparib (271 women) or a placebo (133) for up to two years.

  • The risk of the cancer growing or of death fell by 57% (hazard ratio 0.43). Median time without progression was 13.6 months with placebo and had not yet been reached with senaparib.
  • At one year, 72.2% on senaparib were still free of progression against 53.7% on placebo; at two years, 63.0% against 31.3%.
  • The benefit was the same size with or without a BRCA mutation (hazard ratio 0.43 in both groups).

Recommended Dosage

  • Usual dose: 100 mg by mouth once a day, taken without food
  • Dose steps if side effects build up: 80 mg, then 60 mg, then 40 mg a day
  • In the trial, treatment lasted for up to 2 years, or until the cancer grew or side effects became too hard to manage

The capsules used in the trials contain 10 mg each, so the usual 100 mg dose is ten capsules once a day. Your oncologist will set the exact dose from the Chinese prescribing information.

This information is not a treatment plan. For personalized medical advice, consult your doctor and refer to the full prescribing information.

Warnings and Precautions

Blood counts: the main side effects are on the blood. In FLAMES, anaemia affected 81% of women on senaparib, low neutrophils 76%, low white cells 75% and low platelets 70%. Blood counts are checked regularly, especially in the first months, and the dose can be paused or lowered. Report unusual tiredness, breathlessness, bruising, bleeding or fever.

  • Dose changes are common: 63.3% of women on senaparib needed a lower dose because of side effects, against 6.0% on placebo. This is the usual way side effects are managed, and only 4.4% stopped treatment.
  • Other medicines: strong CYP3A4 blockers raised senaparib levels about 2.8-fold and strong CYP3A4 inducers cut them by 83% in a healthy-volunteer study. Tell your doctor about every medicine, herbal product or antifungal you take.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: safety has not been established. Use reliable contraception during treatment and discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding with your oncologist first.

Overall: severe (grade 3 or higher) side effects occurred in 66.3% of women on senaparib and 20.3% on placebo, mostly from low blood counts. No side effect led to death in the trial.

Documentation & Availability

What documents are required to import Senaparib to India?

The capsules can be imported only in the patient's name, by the patient or a government hospital, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. You will need:

  • A valid prescription from a qualified gynaecologic or medical oncologist
  • Diagnostic reports confirming advanced high-grade ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer, with the response to first-line platinum chemotherapy
  • Patient ID proof (issued by the Government of India)

How is the order confirmed?

Once we have received and checked a valid prescription and, where needed, an import permit.

Is Senaparib available in India?

No. It is approved only in China. It has no CDSCO approval and is not sold in Indian pharmacies. The US FDA has not approved it. In Europe, the EMA's medicines committee gave a positive opinion in September 2026 under the name Sepalna, but a final European approval has not yet been issued.

Patients can still get it legally through the Named Patient Program (NPP), which allows a medicine not registered in India to be imported for one specific patient on a prescription. For another option in ovarian cancer, see our page on Elahere.

It can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others — and can facilitate delivery to the patient's treating hospital. Orders are confirmed only after receipt of a valid doctor's prescription and an import permit, where applicable.

Sourcing & Delivery

NamedPatientProgram.com (NPP) sources this medicine through the manufacturer's authorised supply channels in China and arranges supply to patients, doctors, and hospitals under applicable legal provisions. Because the usual dose is ten capsules a day, and the dose may be lowered along the way, we work out the monthly quantity from the latest prescription. The capsules travel in their sealed original packs under temperature-controlled shipping and should be stored as directed on the pack. All prescriptions are dispensed and checked by registered pharmacists and dispatched from New Delhi, India, after legal requirements are fulfilled.
