Understanding Zepbound and Its Medical Uses

Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable medicine approved by the FDA, in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition, and to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults with obesity.

How Zepbound Works

Zepbound is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. By activating both of these gut hormone receptors, it helps reduce appetite and food intake, slow gastric emptying, and improve metabolic signaling, leading to significant weight reduction in clinical studies.

Approved Patient Population

Zepbound is intended for adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbid condition, seeking chronic weight management, as well as adults with obesity and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. Note: Zepbound shares the same active ingredient as Mounjaro, which is approved for a different indication — type 2 diabetes.

Dosage and Administration

Zepbound is started at 2.5 mg subcutaneously once weekly for 4 weeks, then increased in 2.5 mg increments at intervals of at least 4 weeks based on response and tolerability, up to a maintenance dose of 5 mg to 15 mg once weekly.

Warnings and Precautions for Zepbound

Boxed Warning — Zepbound: In studies with rodents, tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown whether Zepbound causes thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. Zepbound is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of MTC or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Gastrointestinal and Kidney Effects

Severe gastrointestinal adverse reactions have been reported, which in some cases have led to acute kidney injury or worsening of chronic kidney disease due to volume depletion.

Acute Pancreatitis and Gallbladder Disease

Acute pancreatitis and acute gallbladder disease have been reported. Zepbound should be discontinued if pancreatitis is suspected.

Hypoglycemia and Diabetic Retinopathy

The risk of hypoglycemia is increased when Zepbound is used with insulin or insulin secretagogues. Patients with a history of diabetic retinopathy should be monitored for progression.

Pulmonary Aspiration and Hypersensitivity

Zepbound delays gastric emptying and may increase the risk of pulmonary aspiration during procedures requiring anesthesia or deep sedation. Serious hypersensitivity reactions have also been reported.

How to Access Zepbound in India: A 6-Step Process

Step 1 – Search & request your medicine: The patient or treating doctor submits a request with basic details to initiate the access process.

Step 2 – Verification & eligibility review: The team verifies availability and reviews eligibility against regulatory and clinical requirements to ensure a compliant pathway.

Step 3 – Receive quote & delivery timeline: A transparent quotation is shared, covering medicine cost, logistics, and a clear delivery timeline.

Step 4 – Regulatory approval process: Assistance is provided to secure the approvals and documentation required for legal cross-border access.

Step 5 – Temperature-controlled import & handling: The medicine is sourced and transported under strict GDP-compliant conditions to maintain product integrity.

Step 6 – Secure delivery: The medicine is delivered to the patient or treating hospital, with updates provided at each stage.

Note: From request to delivery, every step is designed to ensure your treatment reaches you safely, compliantly, and without unnecessary delays.

Documentation and Availability of Zepbound

Zepbound is manufactured and marketed by Eli Lilly and Company. It is sourced through authorized distribution channels for patients seeking named-patient import into India. Note: the same active ingredient, tirzepatide, is also marketed by Eli Lilly under the brand Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes — a different approved indication.

Required Documentation

Patients typically need a valid prescription from a treating physician confirming obesity/overweight diagnosis with a qualifying weight-related condition, or obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis. NPP's regulatory team assists in preparing and verifying the documentation needed for a compliant import.

Availability

As an FDA-approved therapy for chronic weight management and OSA, Zepbound is sourced through authorized channels and imported under GDP-compliant, cold-chain logistics to preserve product quality throughout transit.

Sourcing and Delivery of Zepbound

NPP sources Zepbound directly from authorized pharmaceutical distributors to ensure product authenticity and full traceability. Every shipment is handled under Good Distribution Practice (GDP) conditions from origin to the patient's doorstep.

Cold Chain and Handling

Zepbound requires refrigerated storage at 2°C to 8°C; it may be kept at up to 25°C for a maximum of 30 days if needed. NPP maintains a continuous, monitored cold chain throughout transit.

Delivery Timelines

Once documentation and regulatory approvals are in place, delivery timelines are communicated transparently at the time of quotation, accounting for import clearance and last-mile cold-chain logistics to the patient's city.
