What Is Dupixent Used For?

Dupixent (dupilumab) is a monoclonal antibody that blocks IL-4 and IL-13 signaling, key drivers of type 2 inflammation. It is indicated for multiple conditions, including:

  • Moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in patients 6 months and older not adequately controlled with topical therapies
  • Moderate-to-severe asthma with an eosinophilic phenotype, or oral corticosteroid-dependent asthma, in patients 6 years and older
  • Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps in adults
  • Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) in patients 1 year and older
  • Prurigo nodularis in adults
  • Chronic spontaneous urticaria in patients 12 years and older, uncontrolled with antihistamines
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with an eosinophilic phenotype, as add-on maintenance therapy in adults

Dupixent is a prescription medicine and must be used under the supervision of a qualified specialist appropriate to the indication.

Recommended Dosage

  • For atopic dermatitis (adults): 600 mg initial dose, followed by 300 mg every other week

Documentation & Availability

What documents are required to import Dupixent to India?

Dupixent (dupilumab) injection may be imported in the patient's name only, by patients or government hospitals, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. The following documentation is required:

  • A valid prescription from a qualified dermatologist, pulmonologist, allergist, or gastroenterologist, depending on the condition being treated
  • The patient's diagnostic reports confirming the relevant condition (atopic dermatitis, asthma, nasal polyps, EoE, prurigo nodularis, chronic urticaria, or COPD)
  • Patient ID proof (issued by the Government of India)

How is the order confirmed?

The order is confirmed only after receipt and verification of a valid prescription from the doctor and, if applicable, an import permit.

Is Dupixent available in India?

Dupixent (dupilumab injection) is a prescription medicine that legally requires a doctor's prescription to be dispensed. As of current publicly available information, Dupixent is not commercially marketed in India.

However, patients in India can legally access Dupixent through the Named Patient Program (NPP) — an import provision that allows patients to receive medicines approved in other countries but not yet marketed in India, under a doctor's prescription and proper regulatory documentation.

Dupixent received its first US FDA approval in 2017 for atopic dermatitis, with additional indications for asthma, nasal polyps, eosinophilic esophagitis, prurigo nodularis, chronic urticaria, and COPD approved in subsequent years, ensuring full transparency throughout the process.

Dupixent can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others.
