What Is Famitinib Used For?

Famitinib is a targeted capsule for advanced cervical cancer, developed in China by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals and sold there as 艾比特®. It is not used on its own. It is always taken together with camrelizumab, an immunotherapy drip made by the same company.

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) first approved the combination in May 2025, and in July 2026 it moved that approval from conditional to full and added a first-line use. Together with camrelizumab, it is approved for women with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer:

  • As a first treatment for recurrent or metastatic disease (approved July 2026)
  • After platinum chemotherapy has stopped working, in women who have not had an anti-VEGF antibody before (approved May 2025)

It is a prescription cancer medicine and should only be used under a gynaecologic or medical oncologist.

How It Works

Tumours need a steady blood supply to grow, and they send out signals that make new blood vessels sprout. Famitinib is a multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor: it blocks several of those signal receivers, including VEGFR2 and VEGFR3, and so starves the tumour of new vessels. This also changes the area around the tumour in a way that can help the immune system get in. Camrelizumab is a PD-1 antibody that takes the brakes off the immune system's T cells. The two are designed to work as a pair.

What the Trials Showed

After platinum chemotherapy: in a randomised phase 2 trial published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2025, women whose cervical cancer had come back after earlier treatment received famitinib with camrelizumab (105 women), camrelizumab alone (54) or chemotherapy (35). The tumour shrank in 41.0% with the pair against 24.1% with camrelizumab alone, as judged by independent reviewers. The disease was held back for a median of 8.1 months, compared with 4.1 months on camrelizumab alone and 2.9 months on chemotherapy, and median survival was 20.2 months against 14.9 and 13.9 months.

As a first treatment: the phase 3 trial SHR-1210-III-329 enrolled 443 women at 45 centres in China and compared the pair with platinum-based chemotherapy. Hengrui reports that it met all its main goals. In women whose tumours were PD-L1 positive, median survival was 35.8 months with the pair against 23.6 months with chemotherapy, a 36.6% lower risk of death.

Recommended Dosage

In the phase 2 trial the doses were:

  • Famitinib: 20 mg by mouth once a day, every day
  • Camrelizumab: 200 mg as a drip into a vein once every 3 weeks
  • Continued while it is working and side effects are manageable

Your oncologist will set the exact dose and schedule from the Chinese prescribing information, and may lower the famitinib dose if side effects build up.

This information is not a treatment plan. For personalized medical advice, consult your doctor and refer to the full prescribing information.

Warnings and Precautions

Severe side effects are common: this is a strong combination. In the phase 2 trial, 84.8% of women on famitinib with camrelizumab had at least one severe (grade 3 or higher) treatment-related side effect, and 16.2% stopped treatment because of side effects. In the first-line phase 3 trial, as reported at ESMO 2025, severe side effects occurred in 87.3% on the pair against 67.1% on chemotherapy. Close monitoring is part of the treatment plan.

  • Blood counts: severe drops in neutrophils, the infection-fighting white cells (23.9%) and severe anaemia (20%) were among the most common problems in the phase 2 trial. Blood tests are checked regularly, and any fever should be reported the same day.
  • Blood pressure and kidneys: severe high blood pressure affected 22.9% in the phase 2 trial. In the phase 3 trial, high blood pressure (49.5%) and protein in the urine (52.3%) were frequent, so blood pressure and urine are checked during treatment.
  • Diarrhoea and weight: diarrhoea affected 35.3% (severe in 3.8%) and weight loss 21.9% in the phase 2 trial.
  • Hands and feet: hand-foot skin reaction (redness, soreness or peeling of the palms and soles) affected 28.6%, and was severe in 7.6%. Moisturisers and comfortable footwear help, and the dose can be adjusted.
  • Immune side effects: because camrelizumab works on the immune system, it can inflame healthy organs such as the thyroid, lungs, liver or bowel. Report new cough, breathlessness, yellowing of the skin, severe tiredness or persistent diarrhoea straight away.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: safety has not been established. Use reliable contraception during treatment and discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding with your oncologist first.

Good to know: the published phase 2 results reported no fistulas and no vaginal bleeding linked to treatment, problems that have limited other blood-vessel-blocking tablets in cervical cancer.

Documentation & Availability

What documents are required to import Famitinib to India?

The capsules can be imported only in the patient's name, by the patient or a government hospital, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. You will need:

  • A valid prescription from a qualified gynaecologic or medical oncologist, covering both famitinib and camrelizumab
  • Diagnostic reports confirming recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer, the PD-L1 test result if available, and details of any earlier chemotherapy
  • Patient ID proof (issued by the Government of India)

How is the order confirmed?

Once we have received and checked a valid prescription and, where needed, an import permit.

Is Famitinib available in India?

No. It is approved only in China. It has no CDSCO approval, it is not sold in Indian pharmacies, and the US FDA and European Medicines Agency have not approved it either. Its partner, camrelizumab, is not approved in India or by the US FDA either, so both medicines are imported together for the same patient.

Patients can still get them legally through the Named Patient Program (NPP), which allows a medicine not registered in India to be imported for one specific patient on a prescription. For another option in cervical cancer that has come back after earlier treatment, see our page on Tivdak.

It can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others — and can facilitate delivery to the patient's treating hospital. Orders are confirmed only after receipt of a valid doctor's prescription and an import permit, where applicable.

Sourcing & Delivery

NamedPatientProgram.com (NPP) sources this medicine through the manufacturer's authorised supply channels in China and arranges supply to patients, doctors, and hospitals under applicable legal provisions. Because famitinib is only used with camrelizumab, we plan both together: the daily capsules for the patient, and the camrelizumab vials for the hospital, timed to the 3-weekly drip. Both travel in their sealed original packs under temperature-controlled shipping and should be stored as directed on each pack. All prescriptions are dispensed and checked by registered pharmacists and dispatched from New Delhi, India, after legal requirements are fulfilled.
