What Is Vebreltinib Used For?

Vebreltinib is a targeted cancer capsule that blocks MET, a growth signal that some lung and brain tumours depend on. It was developed in China by Beijing Pearl Biotechnology (浦润奥), part of the Avistone group, and is sold there as 万比锐® enteric capsules. You may also see it called bozitinib, PLB-1001 or APL-101 in research papers.

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has approved it for three uses in adults:

  • Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, locally advanced or metastatic (conditional approval, November 2023)
  • NSCLC with MET amplification, locally advanced or metastatic (conditional approval, June 2025)
  • Brain tumours with the PTPRZ1-MET fusion gene: IDH-mutant astrocytoma (WHO grade 4), or glioblastoma with a history of lower-grade glioma, after earlier treatment has failed (approved April 2024)

A tumour test must first show the MET change. It is a prescription cancer medicine and should only be used under a medical oncologist or neuro-oncologist.

How It Works

MET is a receptor on the cell surface. When a tumour carries a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, extra copies of the MET gene, or a MET fusion, that receptor stays switched on and keeps telling the cancer to grow. Vebreltinib is a highly selective MET tyrosine kinase inhibitor: it sits in the receptor's working pocket and shuts the signal off, which slows or shrinks tumours that rely on it.

What the Trials Showed

In the phase 2 KUNPENG study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2024, 52 people with MET exon 14 lung cancer took vebreltinib. Three in four (75%) had their tumours shrink, including 77.1% of those treated first-line and 70.6% of those treated before. Responses lasted a median of 15.9 months, the median time before the cancer grew again was 14.1 months, and median overall survival was 20.7 months.

A second KUNPENG group of 86 people with MET-amplified lung cancer, reported in The Lancet Oncology, had a response rate of 48.8%. In the FUGEN study in PTPRZ1-MET brain tumours, median survival was 6.31 months with vebreltinib against 3.38 months with chemotherapy.

Recommended Dosage

  • Dose used in the trials: 200 mg by mouth twice a day, every day, in 28-day cycles
  • Strength: 100 mg enteric capsules, so a usual dose is two capsules twice a day
  • Treatment continues while it is working and side effects are manageable
  • If side effects are a problem, the dose can be paused or lowered step by step (to 150 mg, then 100 mg twice a day)

Warnings and Precautions

Swelling (oedema): this is the side effect most people notice. In the MET exon 14 trial, 82.7% had swelling of the legs, ankles or hands, and it was severe in 13.5%. Tell your doctor about rapid weight gain, tight shoes or puffiness, because the dose may need to be paused or reduced.

  • Heart rhythm: a change on the ECG called QT prolongation was seen in 30.8%, mostly mild. ECGs and blood salts (potassium, magnesium) are usually checked during treatment.
  • Kidney and blood tests: raised creatinine (28.8%), low albumin (26.9%) and anaemia (25.0%) were common, so regular blood tests are part of care.
  • Liver: ALT rose in 23.1% of patients and liver problems were severe in about 1 in 10. Liver function is monitored, especially in the first months.
  • Other effects: weight gain and itching (each 23.1%) and a rise in the pancreas enzyme lipase (21.2%) were also reported.

Overall: severe (grade 3 or higher) treatment-related side effects occurred in 48.1% of patients. 21.2% needed a lower dose, half had at least one pause in treatment, and 7.7% stopped. In the MET-amplified group, severe treatment-related side effects occurred in 31%. Safety in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children has not been established.

Documentation & Availability

What documents are required to import Vebreltinib to India?

The capsules can be imported only in the patient's name, by the patient or a government hospital, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. You will need:

  • A valid prescription from a qualified medical oncologist (or neuro-oncologist for brain tumours)
  • Diagnostic reports confirming the cancer, including the molecular test report showing the MET exon 14 skipping mutation, MET amplification or PTPRZ1-MET fusion
  • Patient ID proof (issued by the Government of India)

How is the order confirmed?

Once we have received and checked a valid prescription and, where needed, an import permit.

Is Vebreltinib available in India?

No. It is approved only in China. It has no CDSCO approval, it is not sold in Indian pharmacies, and the US FDA and European Medicines Agency have not approved it either.

Patients can still get it legally through the Named Patient Program (NPP), which allows a medicine not registered in India to be imported for one specific patient on a prescription. For other MET-targeted lung cancer options, see our pages on Tepmetko and Rybrevant.

It can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others — and can facilitate delivery to the patient's treating hospital. Orders are confirmed only after receipt of a valid doctor's prescription and an import permit, where applicable.

Sourcing & Delivery

NamedPatientProgram.com (NPP) sources this medicine through the manufacturer's authorised supply channels in China and arranges supply to patients, doctors, and hospitals under applicable legal provisions. The 100 mg enteric capsules travel in their sealed original packs under temperature-controlled shipping and should be stored as directed on the pack. At two capsules twice a day, a 28-day cycle uses 112 capsules, so we plan supply cycle by cycle to avoid gaps. All prescriptions are dispensed and checked by registered pharmacists and dispatched from New Delhi, India, after legal requirements are fulfilled.
