Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable medicine approved by the FDA as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults and pediatric patients 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who are at high risk for these events.
Mounjaro is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. By activating both of these gut hormone receptors, it helps increase insulin secretion, reduce glucagon levels, and slow gastric emptying, resulting in improved blood sugar control.
Mounjaro is intended for adults and pediatric patients 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes who require additional glycemic control alongside diet and exercise, and for adults with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk.
Mounjaro is started at 2.5 mg subcutaneously once weekly (an initiation dose, not for glycemic control), and increased in 2.5 mg increments after at least 4 weeks based on response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 15 mg once weekly.
Boxed Warning — Mounjaro: In studies with rodents, tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown whether Mounjaro causes thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. Mounjaro is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of MTC or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Acute pancreatitis has been reported. Mounjaro should be discontinued if pancreatitis is suspected and not restarted if confirmed.
The risk of hypoglycemia is increased when Mounjaro is used with insulin or insulin secretagogues such as sulfonylureas; dose adjustment of these medicines may be needed.
Severe gastrointestinal adverse reactions have been reported, which in some cases have led to acute kidney injury or worsening of chronic kidney disease due to volume depletion.
Acute gallbladder disease has been reported. Patients with a history of diabetic retinopathy should be monitored for progression while using Mounjaro.
Serious hypersensitivity reactions have been reported; Mounjaro should be discontinued if a serious reaction occurs.

Mounjaro is manufactured and marketed by Eli Lilly and Company. It is sourced through authorized distribution channels for patients seeking named-patient import into India. Note: the same active ingredient, tirzepatide, is also marketed by Eli Lilly under the brand Zepbound for chronic weight management and obstructive sleep apnea — a different approved indication.
Patients typically need a valid prescription from a treating endocrinologist or physician confirming type 2 diabetes diagnosis and treatment history. NPP's regulatory team assists in preparing and verifying the documentation needed for a compliant import.
As an FDA-approved therapy for type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro is sourced through authorized channels and imported under GDP-compliant, cold-chain logistics to preserve product quality throughout transit.
NPP sources Mounjaro directly from authorized pharmaceutical distributors to ensure product authenticity and full traceability. Every shipment is handled under Good Distribution Practice (GDP) conditions from origin to the patient's doorstep.
Mounjaro requires refrigerated storage at 2°C to 8°C; it may be kept unrefrigerated at up to 30°C for a maximum of 21 days if needed. NPP maintains a continuous, monitored cold chain throughout transit.
Once documentation and regulatory approvals are in place, delivery timelines are communicated transparently at the time of quotation, accounting for import clearance and last-mile cold-chain logistics to the patient's city.
