Anaprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), a type of medicine that lowers the amount of acid the stomach makes. It was discovered and developed in China by Xuanzhu Biopharm, part of the Sihuan Pharmaceutical group, and is sold there as 安久卫® as enteric-coated 20 mg tablets.
China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved it on 21 June 2023 for one use:
The company has also applied in China for use in reflux oesophagitis, but that use is not approved yet. It is a prescription medicine, listed under our other therapeutic areas, and should be taken on a gastroenterologist's advice.
Like other PPIs, it switches off the proton pumps in the stomach lining that make acid, which gives an ulcer the chance to heal. What sets it apart is how the body clears it. It is broken down by several routes and only about 3.5% depends on the CYP2C19 enzyme, so a person's genes affect it less than older PPIs. It also leaves the body through both the gut and the kidneys, roughly 40% and 53%, rather than mostly through the kidneys.
In the phase 3 trial, 448 adults with an active duodenal ulcer took either anaprazole 20 mg or an established comparison PPI once a day for 4 weeks. The ulcer healed in about 93% of the anaprazole group (per-protocol analysis), which the trial judged no worse than the comparison medicine (96.6%). On the very first day, 81.2% of anaprazole patients said their acid reflux symptoms had gone, and healing was similar whatever their CYP2C19 gene type.
The label notes that the trials used a 4-week course, and there is no data yet on taking it for longer.
This information is not a treatment plan. For personalized medical advice, consult your doctor and refer to the full prescribing information.
Liver enzymes: the trials reported raised liver enzymes. All cases were mild or moderate, but the label asks doctors to keep a close watch.
Side effects: 315 people with duodenal ulcer took it in the clinical trials. The common side effects (1–10%) were raised ALT (2.6%) and raised AST (1.5%) liver enzymes. Less often (under 1%), people had diarrhoea, stomach pain, hiccups, bloating, dry mouth, itching or sleepiness. Safety in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children has not been established in the published data.

The tablets can be imported only in the patient's name, by the patient or a government hospital, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. You will need:
Once we have received and checked a valid prescription and, where needed, an import permit.
No. It is approved only in China. It has no CDSCO approval, it is not sold in Indian pharmacies, and the US FDA and European Medicines Agency have not approved it either.
Patients can still get it legally through the Named Patient Program (NPP), which allows a medicine not registered in India to be imported for one specific patient on a prescription.
It can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others — and can facilitate delivery to the patient's treating hospital. Orders are confirmed only after receipt of a valid doctor's prescription and an import permit, where applicable.
NamedPatientProgram.com (NPP) sources this medicine through the manufacturer's authorised supply channels in China and arranges supply to patients, doctors, and hospitals under applicable legal provisions. In China it is sold in packs of 6 tablets of 20 mg, so a 4-week course needs about 5 packs. The tablets travel in their sealed original packs under temperature-controlled shipping. All prescriptions are dispensed and checked by registered pharmacists and dispatched from New Delhi, India, after legal requirements are fulfilled.
