Vivitrol (naltrexone extended-release injectable suspension) is approved by the FDA for two indications: treatment of alcohol dependence in patients who are able to abstain from alcohol in an outpatient setting prior to initiation, and prevention of relapse to opioid dependence following opioid detoxification.
Vivitrol is an opioid antagonist that blocks opioid receptors, reducing the rewarding effects of alcohol and preventing opioids from producing their euphoric and other effects. As a monthly injectable, it offers sustained receptor blockade without requiring daily dosing.
Vivitrol is intended for patients with alcohol dependence who can abstain from alcohol before starting treatment, or patients with opioid use disorder who have completed detoxification and are opioid-free.
The recommended dose of Vivitrol is 380 mg administered as an intramuscular gluteal injection once every four weeks, alternating buttocks for each injection.
Vivitrol does not carry a formal FDA boxed warning. However, patients and prescribers should be aware of the following important safety information.
Patients who have been treated with Vivitrol have reduced tolerance to opioids. If a patient relapses and uses opioids after their tolerance has decreased, there is a risk of fatal overdose, including at doses previously tolerated.
Patients must be opioid-free for a minimum of 7 to 10 days before starting Vivitrol, as starting treatment too soon after opioid use can precipitate severe withdrawal symptoms.
Severe injection site reactions, in some cases requiring surgical intervention, have been reported. Injection sites should be monitored for signs of significant or worsening reactions.
Cases of hepatitis and liver dysfunction have been reported. Liver function should be monitored, particularly in patients with pre-existing liver conditions.

Vivitrol is manufactured and marketed by Alkermes, Inc. It is sourced through authorized distribution channels for patients seeking named-patient import into India.
Patients typically need a valid prescription from a treating addiction medicine specialist confirming diagnosis and, for opioid use disorder, confirmation of completed detoxification. NPP's regulatory team assists in preparing and verifying the documentation needed for a compliant import.
As an FDA-approved therapy for alcohol dependence and opioid relapse prevention, Vivitrol is sourced through authorized channels and imported under GDP-compliant, cold-chain logistics to preserve product quality throughout transit.
NPP sources Vivitrol directly from authorized pharmaceutical distributors to ensure product authenticity and full traceability. Every shipment is handled under Good Distribution Practice (GDP) conditions from origin to the patient's doorstep.
Vivitrol should be stored refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C; it may be stored at temperatures not exceeding 25°C for no more than 7 days prior to administration, and must not be frozen. NPP maintains a continuous, monitored cold chain throughout transit.
Once documentation and regulatory approvals are in place, delivery timelines are communicated transparently at the time of quotation, accounting for import clearance and last-mile cold-chain logistics to the patient's city.
