Zemdri (plazomicin) is an aminoglycoside antibacterial approved by the FDA for the treatment of adults 18 years and older with complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis, caused by susceptible strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter cloacae.
Zemdri is a next-generation aminoglycoside that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, and has been specifically engineered to retain activity against many bacteria that have developed resistance to older aminoglycosides through common resistance mechanisms.
Zemdri is intended for adult patients with complicated urinary tract infections, including kidney infections (pyelonephritis), caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria, particularly relevant in settings with rising antibiotic resistance.
The recommended dose of Zemdri for patients with normal renal function (CrCl 90 mL/min or greater) is 15 mg/kg administered intravenously once every 24 hours over 30 minutes, for 4 to 7 days total duration, with dose adjustments required for renal impairment.
Boxed Warning — Zemdri: Zemdri carries risks of nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, neuromuscular blockade, and fetal harm. Nephrotoxicity risk is greater in patients with impaired renal function, the elderly, and those receiving concomitant nephrotoxic drugs. Ototoxicity, including irreversible hearing loss and vestibular toxicity, can occur. Neuromuscular blockade and respiratory paralysis can occur, particularly with concurrent use of anesthetics or neuromuscular blocking agents. Zemdri can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman.
Renal function should be assessed before and during treatment, with dose adjustment based on creatinine clearance.
Patients should be monitored for signs of hearing loss, tinnitus, or vertigo, particularly with prolonged use or in patients with pre-existing risk factors.
Hypersensitivity reactions and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea have been reported, as with other antibacterial agents.

Zemdri is manufactured and marketed by Cipla USA Inc. It is sourced through authorized distribution channels for patients seeking named-patient import into India.
Patients typically need a valid prescription from a treating infectious disease specialist or urologist confirming complicated UTI diagnosis and susceptibility testing where available. NPP's regulatory team assists in preparing and verifying the documentation needed for a compliant import.
As an FDA-approved therapy for complicated urinary tract infections, Zemdri is sourced through authorized channels and imported under GDP-compliant, cold-chain logistics to preserve product quality throughout transit.
NPP sources Zemdri directly from authorized pharmaceutical distributors to ensure product authenticity and full traceability. Every shipment is handled under Good Distribution Practice (GDP) conditions from origin to the patient's doorstep.
Zemdri requires refrigerated storage at 2°C to 8°C. NPP maintains a continuous, monitored cold chain throughout transit.
Once documentation and regulatory approvals are in place, delivery timelines are communicated transparently at the time of quotation, accounting for import clearance and last-mile cold-chain logistics to the patient's city.
