What Is Netanasvir Used For?

Netanasvir is an oral antiviral capsule for chronic hepatitis C, developed in China by the HEC (Dongyangguang) group. The licence holder is Sunshine Lake Pharma, and in China it is sold as 东卫卓® (Chinese name 磷酸萘坦司韦胶囊). It is one half of a two-medicine course: it is always taken with encofosbuvir tablets from the same group, once a day for 12 weeks.

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved it in February 2025 as a Class 1 innovative drug, for adults with:

  • Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection of genotypes 1, 2, 3 or 6
  • Who have never been treated, or who were treated before with interferon
  • With or without compensated cirrhosis

It is a prescription liver medicine and should be used under a hepatologist or gastroenterologist.

How It Works

Netanasvir blocks NS5A, a protein the hepatitis C virus needs to copy itself and to build new virus particles. Its partner, encofosbuvir, blocks a different target, the NS5B polymerase enzyme. The company describes netanasvir as a second-generation NS5A inhibitor that is not broken down by the liver's CYP enzymes, which is expected to mean fewer clashes with other medicines.

What the Trial Showed

Approval rested on a phase 2/3 study in China (NCT05395416) of netanasvir plus encofosbuvir for 12 weeks. According to the company's reimbursement filings, 95% of patients were cured overall (no detectable virus 12 weeks after the last dose, called SVR12). Cure rates were 99% for genotype 1, 99% for genotype 2, 78% for genotype 3 and 92% for genotype 6, and 92.3% in people with compensated cirrhosis. China's drug review centre reported an SVR12 of 94.1% in the double-blind part of the phase 3 study, and found that viral load, cirrhosis and earlier interferon treatment made no meaningful difference to the result.

Recommended Dosage

  • 0.1 g (one capsule) once a day, taken with food
  • Together with encofosbuvir 0.6 g (two 0.3 g tablets) once a day
  • Both for 12 weeks
  • The dose should not be changed, and treatment should not be paused

A missed capsule should be taken the same day as soon as you remember. If the day has gone, take the next one at the normal time; never take two to make up. No dose change is needed for older people, for compensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh A) or for mild kidney problems.

This information is not a treatment plan. For personalized medical advice, consult your doctor and refer to the full prescribing information.

Warnings and Precautions

Never used alone: netanasvir is approved only together with encofosbuvir, so the warnings for both medicines apply throughout the course.

  • Medicines that must not be combined: it must not be taken with strong P-gp inducers, and moderate P-gp inducers are not recommended. These include some tuberculosis antibiotics, several older anti-seizure medicines and St John's wort. One particular heart-rhythm medicine is restricted during the combination, so tell your doctor everything you take.
  • Hepatitis B: during treatment and follow-up, doctors should watch for hepatitis flare-ups or hepatitis B reactivation, and test and treat hepatitis B where needed.
  • More advanced liver disease: safety and effectiveness have not been established in moderate or severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh B or C).
  • Kidney problems: not established in moderate or severe kidney impairment, or in people on dialysis.
  • Children: there are no data in people under 18.

Side effects: across the phase 2 and 3 studies (442 patients on the combination), side effects affected 41.0% of patients compared with 31.3% on placebo, and most were mild or moderate. Those seen in at least 5% were raised uric acid, raised cholesterol and raised triglycerides. A few changes, such as raised blood creatinine and urea, were seen only in the treatment group. Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding is not covered in the published summary, so discuss this with your doctor before starting.

Documentation & Availability

What documents are required to import Netanasvir to India?

The capsules can be imported only in the patient's name, by the patient or a government hospital, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. You will need:

  • A valid prescription from a qualified hepatologist or gastroenterologist, covering both netanasvir and encofosbuvir
  • Diagnostic reports, including HCV RNA (viral load), the HCV genotype and a liver assessment
  • Patient ID proof (issued by the Government of India)

How is the order confirmed?

Once we have received and checked a valid prescription and, where needed, an import permit.

Is Netanasvir available in India?

No. It is approved only in China. It has no CDSCO approval, it is not sold in Indian pharmacies, and we found no approval by the US FDA or the European Medicines Agency.

Patients can still get it legally through the Named Patient Program (NPP), which allows a medicine not registered in India to be imported for one specific patient on a prescription. We arrange netanasvir and encofosbuvir together so the full 12-week course arrives as one plan. You can also read about Alfosbuvir, another hepatitis C medicine approved in China.

It can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others — and can facilitate delivery to the patient's treating hospital. Orders are confirmed only after receipt of a valid doctor's prescription and an import permit, where applicable.

Sourcing & Delivery

NamedPatientProgram.com (NPP) sources this medicine through the manufacturer's authorised supply channels in China and arranges supply to patients, doctors, and hospitals under applicable legal provisions. Each box holds 28 capsules of 0.1 g (4 strips of 7), which is four weeks of treatment, so a 12-week course needs 3 boxes, alongside 6 boxes of encofosbuvir. The capsules stay in their sealed original packs, are stored as directed on the pack, and travel under temperature-controlled shipping. All prescriptions are dispensed and checked by registered pharmacists and dispatched from New Delhi, India, after legal requirements are fulfilled.
