Peceleganan is an antibacterial spray for infected burn wounds. Instead of an antibiotic, it uses an antimicrobial peptide, a short chain of amino acids that breaks open bacteria. It was developed in China by Jiangsu ProteLight Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology, where it was known in research as PL-5, and it is sold there by Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group (part of Sino Biopharmaceutical). Its Chinese name is 培来加南喷雾剂.
China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved it in June 2026 for:
It is a prescription medicine among our infection and other therapy medicines, and should be used under a burns specialist, plastic surgeon or wound-care doctor.
Peceleganan is a man-made peptide of 26 amino acids that takes on a spiral (alpha-helix) shape when it meets the surface of bacteria. According to Sino Biopharmaceutical, it kills bacteria by damaging their outer membranes and the protective biofilm they build on a wound, a different route from standard antibiotics. The company reports that laboratory tests showed activity against drug-resistant bacteria such as MRSA and NDM-1-carrying Acinetobacter baumannii. It is the first medicine of its "-ganan" class to be named by the World Health Organization.
In a phase 3 trial published in JAMA Network Open in 2024, 570 adults with infected open wounds, mostly burns, were treated for 7 days with either the spray or a standard antibacterial burn cream. The day after treatment ended, the wound had improved enough to count as a clinical success in 90.4% of people on peceleganan against 78.7% on the cream. However, bacteria were fully cleared from the wound less often with the spray (24.0% vs 46.0%), so the authors said its effect on clearing bacteria is still uncertain.
A second, placebo-controlled phase 3b trial in 348 adults with mildly infected small burns, published in Burns & Trauma in 2026, found complete healing by day 15 in 64.3% with the spray against 43.1% with placebo.
The spray contains peceleganan at a strength of 2‰ (0.2%). In the trials it was used like this:
The amount per area of wound and the approved course length are given in the Chinese package insert. Your doctor will decide how long to use it.
This information is not a treatment plan. For personalized medical advice, consult your doctor and refer to the full prescribing information.
For use on the skin only: the spray is applied to the wound surface. In the phase 2b trial, peceleganan could not be detected in the blood after treatment, which suggests very little of it is absorbed into the body.
Overall: the trials included adults only (18 to 75 years in the main phase 3 trial), so use in children, pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Tell your doctor about any allergy before use, and report spreading redness, fever or worsening pain straight away.

The spray can be imported only in the patient's name, by the patient or a government hospital, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. You will need:
Once we have received and checked a valid prescription and, where needed, an import permit.
No. It is approved only in China. It has no CDSCO approval, it is not sold in Indian pharmacies, and the US FDA and European Medicines Agency have not approved it either.
Patients can still get it legally through the Named Patient Program (NPP), which allows a medicine not registered in India to be imported for one specific patient on a prescription. For hard-to-treat bacterial infections, NPP also imports Xacduro and Fetcroja.
It can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others — and can facilitate delivery to the patient's treating hospital. Orders are confirmed only after receipt of a valid doctor's prescription and an import permit, where applicable.
NamedPatientProgram.com (NPP) sources this medicine through the manufacturer's authorised supply channels in China and arranges supply to patients, doctors, and hospitals under applicable legal provisions. Burn wounds need treatment without delay, so we share the timeline with the doctor up front and order the number of sprays needed for the planned course. It is stored as directed on the pack and travels in sealed original packs under temperature-controlled shipping. All prescriptions are dispensed and checked by registered pharmacists and dispatched from New Delhi, India, after legal requirements are fulfilled.
